Expectations. and rain.

I really wonder what he's thinking when he makes faces like this. Then I get distracted by that little nose and just cease thinking altogether.

When was the last time you were this excited about something? I doubt it was because you got to play in the rain.

He had just noticed that there was another child on the other side of the balcony.

Hello??? Where are you?
Clearly I need to let him out of the closet more often.

On to the point. Expectations. When Josh told me we were moving to Japan I immediately thought of Tokyo, capsule hotels, men in suits on bullet trains, sushi and atomic bombs. Japan is fast paced and technology laden.

Something I'm learning is that Okinawa is not Japan. They might technically belong to Japan. They might have had their original language basically wiped out because of who they "belong" to. But they are essentially doing their own thing out here. I imagine it's like Hawaii in that sense.
There are so many different influences here. It feels very melting pot to me. A melting pot full of different varieties of curry, but a melting pot nonetheless.
How many times can I say melting pot?

I like this island attitude. Okinawan time means late is expected, acceptable, and encouraged. It means that it's totally legal to stop on the road to grab ice cream from a street vendor. It means culture and celebration all year round.

If I could have everyone I love here with me I don't think I would ever leave.

  1. I'm glad you're enjoying it so much! To be honest I think we had similar thoughts as to what Okinawa might be. I was pretty sure I didn't want to ever go there if I could help it but if your blog continues to show good things I'll probably reconsider that thought.
