I've been slacking...so it's going to be long.

Oh Okinawa....you take my stress and melt it away sometimes.

Anyway.
We moved into our apartment! This is the living room. We're still not sure if our huge couch will allow a kitchen table in here but we'll figure it out.

And our tiny kitchen. Really, it's tiny. Not a big deal for me. I'm seeing this as an opportunity to clean out the pantry often and only buy things we need. That's going to be difficult because I'm in love with Ryukyan glass. It's handblown and a centuries old craft on the island....I may or may not have to just *accidently* break some of our dishes. Oh man!!! Now we'll have to replace some! Bummer.

I guess this is the guest toilet? See that little window, it actually faces out into the hallway right by the door. Why? Is it like if someone comes over but you're otherwise disposed you could just pop your head out and let them know it'll be a minute?

This is the master bathroom. You can't see the showerhead in this picture but it's tiny. All the ones I've seen here are. All of the bathrooms are also a few inches below the rest of the apartment with drains in the floor so you can hose yourself off before you get in the tub. Ummm okay.
The toilets flush with a button. Thomas really likes that button. I like that he's excited about toilets.

Here is our bedroom. This is the government loaner furniture. Our bed is actually coming, but won't be here until September. We're glad to have this one though and plan on putting it in the third bedroom for visitors.

This is the third bedroom. No ocean view. So sad.

This will be Thomas' room.

Here is the interior of our car. It's pretty awesome isn't it? They just don't make stuff like this anymore. I love how the carpets don't match the seats. Love it. I also love that drink on the left. It's called Aquarius. I thought it was water, but it's like citrus water. So refreshing in this weather! I also feel the need to sing "Aquarius" everytime I drink it. Josh gets quite annoyed.

I love the symbols here. Can't read Japanese? No problem. This little crab is here to tell you to watch out for your fingers!

This was to illustrate how short it is. Josh is not a tall man. Even I can see over the roof.

Okay enough of show and tell. I had to do it, because my dad likes being able to picture where I am.
This is the beach in behind our apartment. We can't see it because of a big high rise building...but I imagine I'll appreciate that in typhoon season. It's about a 10 minute walk with Thomas in tow. So about a 2 minute walk for an adult.

They have a bunch of these little pagodas. All of them have great views and little places to sit inside. I've seen a lot of people stretching or meditating in them. I just love the roof on these.

The park is right next to the beach. Thomas gets so excited about this little horse thing, but he isn't tall enough to peddle, so mom has to push him in circles and then I get dizzy and make him stop. I used to love spinning. I must be getting old.

This is the actual park structure. It's in the shape of a dolphin. There is a little dolphin too for the babies. There's also a skate park. I've seen more skate parks here than I have in my whole life.
I'm pretty sure Thomas wants one of these roller slides installed in his bedroom. He loves that he can control how fast he goes.

Did you notice that there aren't any other children in the pictures? That's because it was 10am and anyone who has been here longer than I have knew that it was way too hot to be outside. So we headed home pretty quickly. One minor pit stop for a tiny little crab to cross the road and we were on our way.

This sign is in front of our building. I think the neighbors are thrilled we're here. The poisonous snakes called habu are also excited.

Now here I need to apologize. You see we took a walk tonight and while we were eating I let my son play with our little camera...and he took a lot of finger pictures. In typical grubby little boy fashion he got the lens dirty. All pictures hereafter will be fuzzy.

We've been on some sort of burger kick lately. I think it's just a summer thing. We went to the double decker cafe, which is a restaurant and bar inside of a bus. The food and service were horrible, and overpriced. Then we tried Freshness burger which was acceptable, and it was all organic, which I like, but it was also kind of pricey.
Luckily we found Gordies. They are down the street from the park...this might be a bad thing.

A hammock?! I was tempted to lay in it....they serve quite a few cocktails here and I don't think it would be wrong to relax in that with a cold drink in my hand. But I have a toddler and therefore won't be relaxing in hammocks for the time being.
It feels like you're dining in someone's house. All of the tables inside are random, or you can just sit on the couch or at the bar. We chose to sit outside.

We made that decision to keep the little monkey happy.

All burgers come with soup...sure, soup, in July. Sounds great!

Josh got a coke float, which means we got a scratch off ticket and then we won a little coca-cola pin. I wore it around all night.
Here he is enjoying his bacon cheeseburger. I went for the teriyaki burger. All was delicious and we will be back.

We decided to walk along the seawall and passed this sign on the way. Word.

All along the seawall there are these humongous cement thingies. That's a technical term. People paint on them. I liked this little face...very gingerbread man from Shrek right?

It wasn't this gray in real life...damn that smudgy lens.

Okinawa is a hugely loved diving spot...mostly because of all of the coral reefs....that doesn't always make for soft sandy beaches. We're going to need some water shoes.

This is a random picture of Qoo. Thomas' new favorite food item in the entire world. I think it's a drink, but it's kind of gelatinous. Regardless, he gets really excited for this.

Isn't yen creepy?

  1. Ok, I have lots of comments :-) It will be random so it doesn't get too too long. First, I love reading your blog! Second, I love your floors! I'll drop the numbers now, but the way you described the bathroom, CJ would love it! He tells everybody that when we have a kid he wants a tiled room with a drain in the floor to hose off our future child and things like the high chair. Pretty sure I would see the gears turning in his head if he saw your bathroom!

I love those balconies from the bedrooms! And having the beach so close is awesome as well as a park close for Thomas. And your car is adorable! I take it most cars in Japan are much smaller than in the US? Cars here are getting TOO big! Qoo looks interesting, the picture makes me want to grab it and try it.
